Software updates are supposed to be the boring part of running an HP line. Then one morning the printer won’t take your Netfabb MJF job. That’s what happened to the head of additive manufacturing at a Slovenian HP reseller after upgrading Netfabb from 2019.0 to 2019.2. Their Jet Fusion 4200 stopped accepting builds, and there was no new printer firmware to fix it.

Why would a Netfabb MJF job stop sending after an update?

Because the build-prep software and the printer stopped agreeing on the file format. The old engine version worked fine. The new one didn’t, and two weeks later neither Autodesk nor HP had released a patch.

What fixed it?

A registry setting. For error code 0090-0050-0083, Autodesk’s Netfabb team gave a short procedure: keep Netfabb closed, open the Windows Registry Editor, find the value named “zip64” under the Netfabb engine_hp key and set it to 0, then relaunch and send the job. The user got it working and corrected the path. The right key was HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Netfabb\engine_hp, without the extra “netfabb” folder in Autodesk’s first version. Autodesk updated its post and said clean installs of Netfabb 2020.0 would set the value to 0 by default.

If you’re on a current release, you probably won’t hit this exact bug. The pattern still matters, though. The thread was still getting replies in February 2026 from shops trying to track down older engine versions.

How do you keep this from shutting you down?

Treat build-prep software like a machine setting, not an app on someone’s laptop. Write down the Netfabb version and printer firmware that work together, and keep the old installer around. Then try every update on one workstation with a small real job before anyone else gets it.

And if you’re not sure the build room in Netfabb is right, the forum has an answer for that too. When another user saw a 200 × 200 × 200 mm default instead of the HP’s real volume, Autodesk said connecting to the machine by IP sets the build space automatically.

What should you note if it happens anyway?

Write down the exact error code from the printer before you call anyone. “0090-0050-0083” got this shop a fix in one reply. “It won’t print” got them a request for more details.
